How Many Calories Are In A Pound Of Beef Tips

THE MADRID FRONTON. (In memory of a deceased.)

few weeks ago gave me this wonderful idea, why not write something about the pediments of the capital? Well truth is it was another of the great entertainment of the locals, so just for today, this blog is called: Where are the pediments of Madrid?
The pediment Madrid was built on a narrow street downtown the capital, which in turn had great commercial appeal and was one focus of amusement of the locals. Ideal film in one corner, on the other the Odeon Theatre or Calderon, a little further down the movie theater Figaro and practically deal with this, the pediment Madrid. The new building Ildefonso was owned Anabiarte, owner of Modern handball which was then on the other side of the street and after the opening of its successor, would be demolished building in its place the movie theater Figaro ownership. The new store was designed by architect Eduardo Lozano Lardet, the same as a year earlier had designed the Cinema San Carlos de la Calle de Atocha. The building was built on a plot with enough depth that would project their field perpendicular to the axis of Cortezo Doctor Street, leaving the main front entrances, cafeteria and restaurant lounges.
The cover had been made in solid brick, with large artificial stone jambs and lintels of all their holes, especially highlighting the colorful stained glass windows installed in all plants. The building had a long side yard light that filled the room, and a dome of glass and iron by the light coming in torrents. The entrance to the premises could be made from five holes, side with direct access to grandstands and restaurant, and three plants with access to the court, with all interconnected. The first hole and more to the left, was the entrance to the living area on the first floor and restaurant on the second.

Pediment Facade of Madrid.

Ground floor of the new gable Madrid.

Crossing this door we were a large lobby, with the high ceiling and marble floor, like the staircase from the left. At the other extreme a large door of communication to the central lobby and installed in the stairwell going up an elevator to the rooftop plant, which was the summer terrace. The second central lobby and had three doors to the street, was the most comprehensive, it was access to the court that was through a staircase of two shots, which was installed under the fountain. Were in this space lockers are wood stakes that were near the central entrance. The walls were decorated simply had them modern niches with vases, soils as well as other lobby were marble and the ceilings have plaster moldings and rosettes.
A image of the main lobby.

On the right side of this lobby tore a staircase of five steps that converged with that started near the door on the fifth hole or right side and going up to the mezzanine floor where were the stands. Right next to this stairway was a lower side to the hall, built under the grandstand ramp and served first access to the entire length of hollow ladder.

View taken from the lobby side. Since this place was part of the central hall and it was installed the wardrobe and a small bar.
This hall was very long and extended parallel to the field being illuminated from above by six stained-glass windows overlooking a side yard. The tile floor was hydraulic, and the walls were decorated with brightly colored paintings in this space was in addition to the wardrobe, a small local bar and a salon-barber shop. In the background were the toilets and a back staircase leading to the grandstand and bleachers of the higher floors. There was also another step to access the service counter door, the locker rooms and other services pelota fronton. As mentioned above could be accessed via the stairs three stairs from the lobby or directly lateral to the court from the main lobby, these can be for a very quick and orderly evacuation in case of disaster.

The building was built with iron frame and brick, which gave him a very light and graceful presence. The provision of localities in the court facility was done in eight rows of seats, on the first floor was divided into small boxes or stands with movable chairs and the third was a large and steep stands with general admission, adding in full 1500 locations. The seats were tilting innovative space-saving, patented by Mr. Anabiarte

These steps, both in the lower ground floor, main or first had access and evacuation from two straight shots on both sides, plus a lift to the higher sites. Advances had all the time and cafeteria service in their own localities which was carried from the restaurant itself through elevators and dumbwaiters. The court amply fulfilled the regulatory measures, with a length of 33 meters, which were covered by a large iron and glass roof gable, which had also installed a very modern system of artificial light provided by candles that close to 80,000 rest distributed by other plants, they made a total of 120,000 lamps. The bleachers rose to the height of the second floor and these had installed a very large window facing north run, which added to the interior lighting. All doors and windows had stained glass windows that filter the light and tone filled the room very happy.

A unique image of the playing field. At the bottom cage marker, side door access to locations, and on the bleachers the large window illuminating the space from above.
Note in the top right in the center of the ceiling, the vast skylight as the sun lit up artificially.

As discussed above could be performed independent access to the tea room and restaurant, not only because it was also possible to access the gable own plants, so that could operate autonomously. The steps as mentioned above, up to the first floor where you installed the living area, when fully illuminated by very broad stained glass windows to the main street, with an elaborate iron railing shapes with polished wooden handrail.

The tea room on the first floor.

On the tea room and occupying the same space installed the restaurant, as we have said before receiving light from the outside by one side, and shared kitchen with stairs access service and dumbwaiter. On these two plants was a large terrace to where they moved in the summer evenings, snacks and dinner.

The lounge restaurant that never missed a single detail.

The restaurant opened with honors on June 5, 1929, an event that gathered the most important newspapers of the time.

Several publications echoing the opening of new premises.

worked continuously for over forty years, going through some ups and downs caused by civil war and the fragility of the country, the only local who reached the 70. It is at that time when that an important reform to modernize, has run again but had some problems with the employees in the 70 as can be seen in the following video .
finally closed mainly due to its low activity in the early 80's. Subsequently used as a boxing rim as shown in the movie "The Crack" Jose Luis Garci 1981, or as makeshift concert hall a few times a day as June 28, 1981 when he performed at the local Baron Red.

Two scenes from the film "Crack" (1981)
step After a long time closed its facades were gray, his signs had lost some of his lyrics, his windows were open wide, and so only saw a mysterious dark inside. In the last time it was used as building materials store and even made a conversion for reform which divided the track creating a new platform at the top and isolating the skylights. We were told in an anonymous comment could be a conversion project in paddle tennis courts and squash but never saw the light.

The RTVE website a few years ago and gave the following tragic news.
"El Fronton Madrid, opened in 1929, will become a few months in a luxury hotel and an underground parking. Thus ends the slow agony of a historic building, located a few meters from the Puerta del Sol Closed twenty-seven years in their court trophies were played as the San Isidro, which brought together the best pelota. He was the only pediment of the world with the rare privilege of having women's parties, the rackets. These same women won in the late seventy-one unfair dismissal claim and had to be readmitted after his company, Pediment Madrid, where many games were played, the cast because they were too old and could not play. "

This building was originally filed with a high level of architecture has come to be completely free except for its facade which will be respected. Demolition work began in 2009 and were retained only part of the bay front, which was also completely emptied.

In a couple of years this building will be occupied by a new, centrally located luxury hotel with several floors of basement garage, with the disappearance of this, which was largely intact, is only standing the "Beti Jai", which if not remedied end succumbing to a pickaxe.

sure many know "Ciudad Lineal and its surroundings, but may be very few who remember "La Ciudad Lineal." A more accurate title for this work might have been "Rescuing the Lost City" because it really is a long archaeological work, carried out in libraries and newspaper archives. The Arturo Soria's Linear City was born as the dream of a thinker, a man ahead of his time to it closed many doors, but thanks to his perseverance, he managed to make his most awaited project, "urbanize the countryside and the city ruralise ". What began as an ideal in which convivirían rich and poor, it has become the most important and healthy development of the early twentieth century, in which many important people purchased their farm baptizing in a hotel or villa. This city will take a walk through which to analyze some of the most important buildings: the theater, amusement park, the bullring, CEA studies, the power plant or sports field used as a makeshift airfield. Tracing its history and its protagonists, until the present day, all accompanied by many drawings and pictures, some so far unpublished, to help us go fitting the pieces of this puzzle.
